New Direction

September 14th, 2008
From the office of Penn’s Woods Council

“The Penn’s Woods Council is seeking applicants for all camp management and staff positions for the 2009 season at Camp Seph Mack. Applications for all positions are available on-line or by contacting the Council Service Center.

After serving successfully for two years as our Camp Director, Kurt Roberts will serve the camp in a different role. Kurt will serve the camping committee as the summer resident camp staff advisor, which will include coaching, guiding and advising the 2009 Camp Seph Mack management team. Kurt’s leadership to our camp has helped us develop exciting new programs and grow youth attendance at our camp. Kurt will play a vital role, in his new assignment, to help us continually grow and improve.”

It has been a pleasure working with you all the past 2 years, and the camp staff experience ranks amongst the most meaningful experiences I’ve had. I thank you all for your dedication and commitment to making CSM a success and hope that you will continue to support the camp. I will let you know when the new team is finalized, and I look forward to my new role in helping the camp continue the level or service and traditions that we have all started.

I look forward to keeping in touch with you!

Yours in Scouting,
Kurt R

Brian Vander Ark at My Place!

March 19th, 2008

Last week I said I was hopefully going to be announcing some great news, and here it is: Solo artist and lead singer for the Verve Pipe, Brian Vander Ark is coming to town! Monday September 8th, Brian will be rocking Middle Taylor Township! I’m still working on the exact venue, probably at the picnic grounds down the street from my home since my yard isn’t big enough, so we can enjoy the weather and make it a big block party…are there blocks in Middle Taylor? There will be more information shortly, a flyer,a facebook event group, etc. We’re also looking at having the show recorded as a live ‘bootleg’ album as well.
Come out and enjoy some great music, great food, and great friends! After the show Brian will be hanging around for photos and autographs and whatever else. MORE SOON!

It’s Been Awhile

February 11th, 2008

Wow, it’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted. Super busy time of the year here, will throw a few brief updates on here and some pics.

-Had a nice (but very brief) holiday season, came and went quicker than normal.
-Attended the ‘Lost Film Fest’ at the Johnstown Area Heritage Association…..crazy to say the least. I’m at a loss for words how to describe it. (not all good)
-Went to Buffalo NY for a few days.
-Went to Stowe Vermont for some Snowboarding with Pat & Daria, then briefly in CT.
-Currently run a District Blog over at crdistrict.blogspot.com
-Jack and Josie are doing very well. Great duo.
-Grandma Faye turned 80 and we had a really nice shindig with the whole gang and all significant others and spawn.
-Was in the ‘Our Town’ as an Americorp Worker, lol, painting a church. (Was the only person of 40 that wasn’t Americorp and whos pic ends up in the paper?)
-Great article and pic in the Tribune Democrat about the Councils 2007 success.
-Great article and pics in the Indiana Gazette about the Districts 2007 success.
-Going full steam into Camp Seph Mack 2008 with an amazing staff and program.
-Continuing to evolve my professional work plan and looking to potentially relocate in 2009-2010 depending on a few variables
-Going to a number of concerts that will be reviewed at YNFVGB.

That’s just a few things to recap….I’ll try to post more. Keep checking YNFVG!

My Little Man Jack

December 3rd, 2007

Hey Guys, please pray for my little guy Jack. He had a rough day at the vets office today: he got fixed, had his dew claws removed, and got the tatoo for permanent registration. He’s a little mopey and tired, laying around more than normal which is understandable. He’s obviously sore, and I’m sure his nether regions are a little discomforted as well. I dont think I have posted any pics of the pups now that they are much bigger so here is one of Jack lying down on my bed.

Trio of Eagles

October 30th, 2007

This past Sunday was Karys Eagle Scout Court of Honor for achieving scoutings highest honor. Little did Korey and I know that it was a celebration of all 3 of us. It was a great ceremony and great food. We got to see old scouting friends and leaders we hadn’t seen in years. And I was given yet another oppertunity to flex my public speaking muscles, lol.

Haunted Camp Weekend Success

October 20th, 2007

So our ‘1st Annual Haunted Camp Weekend’ was an INCREDIBLE success!
Over the weekend we had over 370 scouts, parents, siblings, and pubic come through the camp which is far more than expected. The attendance proved that there is a market/need for this type of event and with only a quick limited marketing campaign this year makes me wonder how much bigger next year will be. It was great to see youth walking to the parking lot carrying a pumpkin they could barely manage, excitedly recounting their experience to their parents. Tons of positive feedback has been coming in, pushing me to start planning for next year already- even BIGGER and BETTER. (And maybe even more large scale events at CSM through the year) I appreciate everyone that came out helping make it a success, especially my summer camp staff :)

‘my great escape’

October 13th, 2007

So this past weekend I made the voyage to CT to visit Pat & Daria and catch a Maroon 5 concert. (Amazing show)
We also took the opportunity to spend the weekend in Maine (always wanted to go there) and it was hands down one of the best times ever. I don’t think I’ve ever done so many thing/gone so many places in that short of a time period! Everything went perfectly, weather, travel, and we seemed to just keep finding new places to stop, explore, and have fun. (GPS is an amazing help) I could go on and on, but go check some of the pics, they speak for themselves. We hope to head back and see even more, maybe make our way further towards Bangor…..still have to hit up Martha’s Vineyard too.I’m pretty confident that when I am up for promotion in about 2 years I will be looking to either move out west or to the New England states for the next stage of my career. Director of Camping for a council maybe? To see more pics (of over 1,000) check out my myspace (link on the right side of this bog) or Pat & Daria’s Web Album here: http://picasaweb.google.com/PatrickLeeAdams/Maine2007
Special thanks to Pat,Daria, and Greg for their hospitality and a great time- Love You Guys.

Communion Sunday

October 7th, 2007

Greetings! So I’m back from the Garden State, having met the guy that invented the blue M&M and a guy that worked with Martin Scorsese, and just a bunch of cool folks in general. I would NEVER get used to having someone else pump my gas- that just ain’t right people.

Anyway, being that today is communion Sunday across the world, tonight my church celebrated our ‘Love Feast’ which only happens twice a year. It’s a very deep, thoughtful, and meaningful evening, which has feet washing and communion. (obviously) Yep, I said feet washing, we take John 13 literally and wash one another’s feet, quite humbling and special- kinda hard to put into words…but a very important pillar of my faith.

After a few crazy busy days full of appointments I am off in the middle of the night to CT & Maine!

What Trenton Makes…

October 4th, 2007

So I’m here at the Wyndham in Princeton New Jersey- Why? I’m attending a marketing conference for the BSA. One of my additional responsibilities with my job is being the Staff Advisor to the Council Marketing Committee, which I really enjoy. What have I learned so far? That ‘Trenton Makes - The World Takes’…and that there is some incredible promotional tools/technology available, especially in regards to the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in America. (And construction stinks!)

These are a few of the marketing efforts we did this fall in addition to Popcorn promotional billboards:
